Tips for preparing your littles for photos.
I can honestly say I have the best job. Over the last couple of years I have had parents express worry about their little ones during session, along with their older kiddos. Whether it’s them being grumpy, not listening etc. Sometimes it prevents families from booking a photo session, and life is too short to not get family photos done!
As a momma myself I understand the worries. Below, I have prepared a list of tips and tricks that I have learned that have helped families through their sessions with me, along with taking my own family photos!
Well Rested Kiddos.
Make sure your kiddos are well-rested prior to the session. Please make sure they get their naps in! I am always willing to accommodate time even though I shoot most of my sessions in the evening, if your little is a early bird, let’s do a morning session!
Bring Snacks!! Bribery is KEY!
A full tummy makes for a happy baby and toddler! Also bringing a favorite toy can help!
Carry your little ones first.
Once you put your little down it is hard to pick them back up especially if they are on the move, I always try to get all of the snuggly holding shots done first!
Play their favorite song.
I am always ready to sing and dance to a kiddo’s favorite song, to make them laugh and get that natural shot of them being in their happy place!
Talk to your child about the session before your session.
When kiddos know what to expect, they are usually much more comfortable walking into the session.
Trust me!
I know this can be hard, but I have seen a lot. I will still be able to document your beautiful family. I have photographed colicky newborns and crying toddlers who want to be super independent, and I can still capture authentic family images. I always say it’s your kiddo's world. We are just living in it during your photo session!
As a mother, photographer, and nurse, I am happy to go with the flow to capture the best authentic images for you and your family.
